United States of America has been the biggest trading partner to Korea for many years. As Korea has become more dependent on U.S. for exports, she has experienced in increased level of commerce conflicts on steel, semiconductors, automobile and intellectual properties. Lately, U.S. has put the highest priority on protecting the domestic industries and opening of the trade partner's markets in relations to the policy on trading with South Korea. Against this backdrop, this study reviews the development in commerce conflicts over steel industry, which has remained as thorny trade issues and is now surfacing again, as well as possible solutions. To resolve the Korea-U.S. commerce conflicts logically, this study attempts to trace the root cause of commerce conflicts. In addition, this study suggests preemptive actions that the Korean industries can take to prevent commerce conflicts down the road.
