China has endeavored to attract foreign direct investment(FDI) after promoting "reformingㆍopening" in 1979. By attracting foreign direct investment, China can earn capital, technology, and know-how from developed countries, and simultaneously attempt long-term and short-term economic growth.
This paper focuses on the change of the degree of importance of the determinant factors of inward foreign direct investment(FDI) toward China before and after WTO affiliation of China, and the reasons of the change.
The findings are as follows: Before WTO affiliation of China, GDP, wage, the education level of employees, the degree of openness, Special Economic Zones influenced significantly the inflow of FDI, but after WTO affiliation of China, only GDP did significantly. The reasons are that the influencing power of the factors regarded as important past decreased because the obstacles of inflow of FDI were removed by changing so many law-economic systems; and also that the foreign direct investment toward China focuses the big domestic market differently from past.
