This paper analyses the interdependence and complementarity between Daegu and Gyeongbuk region in terms of economic structure, the regions' strategic industry and social environments in order to figure out the importance of exhibition and convention industry for the regions' economic prosperity. For this purpose, we consider the two metropolitan cities as one super-metropolitan economic zone to utilize both the economies of scale and economies of scope since most of the firms in the regions are small and medium sized ones. The policy implications we can get are as follows. The first one is that the exhibition and convention industry has a comparative advantage since it shows high linkage effects with the food and lodging, and transportation and warehousing, and printing and publishing industries where those are the regions' major industries. Second, the exhibition and convention industry will help the small and medium sized firms in the region to promote the marketing power by providing the infrastructure for trading goods and services.
