By using time series methods, this paper examines the changing relationship between unemployment, real wages, and productivity after IMF economic crisis. The analysis carries out the two periods 1976 Q1 - 1997 Q4 (the partial period) and 1976 Q1 - 2001 Q4 (the entire period), including the years after Korean economic crisis.
Our different results from the existing studies are as follows. Firstly, for the samples in the entire period, productivity exhibits Granger causality on wages. Secondly, the causality from unemployment to wages improves in the case of using the entire period data. These results imply that, after IMF economic crisis, performance related pay-schemes and Nash bargaining theory are much supported in Korean labor market.
