The purpose of this study is to analyze the transition of urban spatial configuration based on historical data in Jinju city in order to help to establish desirable future urban planning of Jinju city. As for research method, first, it obtained old topographical maps of Jinju city and made them computational. Second, to examine closely the changes of spatial configuration and the changing factors in Jinju city, it elicited the spatial characteristics through applying Space Syntax. Third, the pattern of urban spatial configuration was interpreted by the morphological periods and Space Syntax measures. As a result, the changing phases of spatial layout in Jinju city were classified into three periods. The maps included in the first morphological period have a global integration comprised between 0.8 and 1.2 and a intelligibility comprised between 0.3 and 0.43. The maps included in the second morphological period hold a global integration comprised between 0.59 and 0.62, and a intelligibility comprised between 0.2 and 0.29. Finally, the map included in the third morphological period has a global integration 1.11 and a intelligibility 0.18. This was judged to be accredited to a reason that the influence of the urban infra supply due to several kinds of urban development projects is different each other. Finally the results of this study can be utilized as a valuable guideline for establishing urban planning and urban regeneration project of Jinju city.
