This paper is results of analyzing landslide characteristics such as slope geometry and rainfall at Hwacheon area in Gangwondo around July in 2006 through collection of related data, literature review and field reconnaissance. As results of analyzing the characteristics of rainfall causing landslides in the studied area, landslides in 55 sites were found to happen due to cumulative rainfall of 290~448㎜, concentrated heavy rainfall of minimum 100㎜ in a day. From results of analyzing the geometrical characteristics of 55 slopes where landslides occurred, the slope length was in the range of 5~60m with 78% of frequency. The slope width and slope angle were in the range of 2~20m and 35~50˚ with 83.6% and 71% of frequency respectively. The average length of slope was 46.2m, being less than 70m. For the slope direction of landslides, they were in the north direction mostly so that the wind direction might affect characteristics of landslide.
