The regional teconic stress field during the Early to Middle Miocene epochs in the Janggi Peninsula was estimated by the analysis of azimuthal distribution pattern of 72 dikes. The dikes are generally different in chemical composition in the northern and southern parts of the present area divided by the Balsan-dong to Seogbyeong-ni line. In the northern part the dikes are mainly intermediate to acidic, whereas in the southern part they are basic. The dikes are nearly parallel, and the trends are mostly concentrated in the ENE-WSW direction. The analysis of the preferred orientation of the parallel dikes suggests that horizontal maixmum compressional principal tectonic stress (σₕₘₐₓ) and minimum principal stress axis (σ₃) are ENE-WSW and NNW-SSE directions, respectively.
