The lower part of the Duwibong Formation(Middle Orodovican), Taebaeg City, was deposited on a strom-influenced open-marine platform. Deposition of the lower Duwibong sediments was due to storms. Strom deposits show characteristic fining-upward sequences(8 to 90 cm). This sequence consists of a sharp erosional base overlain by skeletal calcarenite-calcirudite, which is in turn overlain by laminated calcisilitite, which is gradational to marlstone-shale. Skeletal calcarenite with grainstone texture contains shells of open-marine biota including some well-rounded intraclasts. Skeletal calcirudite shows packstone to wackestone texture and consists only of brachiopod. These skeletal carbonates form strom-lag deposits and grade upward to a laminated bed with horizontal plane-lamination, hummocky cross-stratifications and climbing wave-ripple lamination. The top marlstone-shale is extensively bioturbated and the degree of burrowing decreases downward. Stratigraphically, partial storm sequence starting with a laminated bed occurs in the lower part and complete sequence in the upper part of the lower Duwibong sediments, which indicates that they had been deposited during a general regressive-phase.
