The hydrothermal vein-type deposits which comprise the Boguk cobalt mine occur within an Upper Cretaceous quartzmonzonite stock which includes sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Gyeongsan Basin. The ore deposition consists of five mineralization stages; 1) early cobaltian arsenides and sulphoarsenide stage (stage I), 2) late cobaltian arsenide and sulphoarsenide stage (stage II), 3) base metal sulfide stage (stage III), 4) dark carbonates stage (stage IV), 5) light carbonates stage (stage V), from earliest to latest. The presence of Fe-As-S minerals as sulphur buffer assemblages and Bi (I)-Bi S sulphur-buffer enables arsenopyrite apply successfully to the estimation of either temperature and sulphur fugacity. The temperature from the fluid inclusion and the solvus of CoAsS-FeAsS-NiAsS system are similar to the result. The mineralization was occurred at temperature 600 to 150°C from earliest to latest. The sulfur fugacity f (S₂) = -7 to -4. The paragenesis further shows that the earliest minerals formed at high temperatures (approximately 600°C) and that the latest minerals formed at low temperatures (approximately 150°C). Since all stages of this sequence are found either together or in telescoped zones, the deposit can be logically classified as xenothermal. It is interpreted as a near-surface expression of an underlying shallow intrusive mass.
