    The Yongdong Basin is charcterized by its thick, cyclic, alluvial infilling and various types of sedimentary facies. Clast composition between southern and northern part of the basin is different along its longitudinal axis and sedimentary facies change from alluvial fan facies to lacustrine and/or fluvial facies. Basin fills are divided into two megasequences. In the 1st sequence, alluvial sediments developed along the basin margin and lacustrine sidiments in the basin center, while alluvial sediments are predominant in the 2nd sequence. Longitudinal margins associated with two main strike-slip faults show an en-echelon shape which has about 3.3 of length/width ratio. Southeastern main fault (Yongdong fault) acted more intensely than northwestern one, making unpaired fault movements. Evidences strongly support that the Yongdong Basin was a strike-slip fault-controlled basin and that the Yongdong fault played consistently a major role in basin formation and sedimentation as well. The Yongdong Basin changed through five evolutionary phases; opening, infilling, re-opening, re-infilling and closing. Comparing to other basis developed in main strike-slip fault zones arouud the world, Yongdong Basin shares a similar sequential process of formation with pull-apart basins such as both of Hornelen Basin in Norway and Soria Basin in Spain.
