The study area lies in the middle and northwestern part of the 1:50,000 Gyeongsan quadrangle (128°30′—128°41′ in longitude and 35°41′—35°50′ in latitude) and Mt. Choejeong is located at 8 km south of Daegu city. The diameter and area of the Choijeoungsan Dome is about 8 to 12km and 113km² respectively. The geology of the area consists of sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Sinra series, andesitic rocks intruding these, and granitic and acidic dike rocks intruded at the Bulgugsa age. The Mt. Choejeong region is characterized by a dome structure forming a root of volcano with a core of quartz monzonite intruded into the central part of the andesite breccia. Sedimentary formations interbedded within volcanic rocks of the Sinra series, distributed in the northern part of the area, are closely related with the dome structure, because the strikes of them are developed in the direction of NE in the northwest, EW in the north and NW in the northwestern part of the dome. Jayangsan formation consisting of volcanic and sedimentary rocks, distributed in the southeastern part of the area, is also considered to be closely associated with the dome structure, because of the elongated amygdules in the andesitic basalt toward Choejeongsan Dome with unified arrangement. The volcanic activities of the area began at the time of the sedimentation of the Haman formation.
