The present paper is intended to summarize the results of the lithological facies analysis and the description of the depositional environment and the stratigraphy of the Upper-Cretaceous Yeongdong Group. The composite profile analysis with respect to the megascopic parameters of sedimentary facies such as the associations of primary sedimentary structures, the paleocurrent pattern, the geometry of individual facies and the maximum gravels size distribution, reveals that the group was formed in the Yeongdong fluvial sub-basin at the headwaters part of the piedmont fan, opened into the Euisong district of the Gyeongsang basin. The group consists principally of the channel conglomerate and the floodplain shale facies, subordinately the possible point-bar sandstone, pond shale and a small amount of swampy coaly shale facies. The channel facies is mostly made up of the boulder-bearing very coarse pebble to cobble arkose conglomerate and of the alternations of conglomeratic arkose or sandy conglomerate and arkose. Of the channel facies a facies in the Gadongri Formation appears to be an excellent example of the ancient stream deposits and has an extraordinarily thick right sub-prismatic geometry caused by an unchanged river course. A sedimentation cycle is recognized in terms of both units of the group; a lower unit of sedimentation cycle is made up of the Man-gyeri and the Gadongri Formation, and another the Hoidong-ri and the Seonyudong Formation. The maximum gravel size decreases upwards in the former, and, in turn, the same feature appears in the latter.
