    The Hwanggangri region, the central part of southern Korea where various metallic and non-metallic mineral deposits are concentrated, is studied in terms of oregenesis. The upper Cretaceous granites which are relevant to mineralization in this region contain anomalously high fluorine content with an average of 900ppm in comparison with that of 340ppm for the overall Cretaceous granites in Korea. Most of the mineral deposits in the region are of fissure-filling with a general trend of N-S system. A zonal distribution of the mineral deposits, such as tungsten-molybdenum-tin, copper-lead-zinc-bismuth and manganese are distributed from the margin of the granite body to the sedimentary rocks. A telescopic feature of the same order in a vertical section within an orevein is also recognized. The paragenetic sequence is also compatible with the order of mineral zoning. Nature of the ore-fluid shows a high content of CO₂ and the salinity ranges from 3.0 to 11.5 in weight percent equivalent NaCl, during major ore formation, whereas practically no CO₂ content and a low salinity of 0.4~1.5 weight percent in the latest stage. The temperature of the major ore formation ranges from 235° to 370° whereas that of the latest as 145° in centigrade. Manganese oxide ores are formed from sulfide-bearing rhodochrosite veins at near surface environment.
