    Some specimens of Linopteris, previously identified as Neuropteris sp., from the Gapsan Formation of South Korea are described. The genus Linopteris, a leaf trace of the seed ferns, is almost identical with the genus Neuropteris in morphological characters with exception of the reticulated venation of the leaf, so that it may be not so easy to distinguish two genera each other. The most species of Linopteris are good stratigraphic indicators because of their limited stratigraphic range (Carboniferous to Permian). Especially L. neuropteroides has been found in the horizons from the Namurian to the Westphalian D. It is suggested, therefore, that the plant fossil indicates the Manhangian (Moscovian, Upper Carboniferous) age for this formation.
