This study considered urban agriculture as an object to be consistently maintained and conserved rather than transient or residual one and approached the urban agriculture from the point of view that regards it as one of local agriculture. In particular, this study estimated the recognition on agriculture of urban residents and the willingness to pay for the purpose of agricultural conservation. Main results can be put in order as follows;
First, as for the value of urban agriculture, urban residents gave precedence to the provision of the landscape green zone. And urban residents gave the next precedence to the inheritance value for the next generation. Second, the recognition on conserving the urban agriculture is as follows; In terms of the recognition, the response that should use urban agriculture as other uses through external expansion was higher than the response that should use urban agriculture as a traditional agricultural form. For this purpose, respondents preferred the environmental-friendly development through experience programs and agriculture. Third, the urban resident's willingness to pay the fund for conservation of urban agriculture was 39.6%. It was shown that the fund should be used for the maintenance of landscape, site of field practice, supply of agricultural products, prevention of disaster or conservation of region in the descending order. The willingness to pay the estimated monthly average fund per household was 2,623 won. When applying the willingness percentage to pay, 39.6%, to the applied regions, the willingness to pay was shown as 216 million won for monthly average payment, and 2,592 million won for annual average payment.
