In this thesis, we studied the ceremony for a guest of Tang was adopted through exchanges of envoys between Silla and Tang and how it was specifically functioned in Silla, Silla had ceremony that received foreign envoys before adopting ceremony for a guest of Tang, The task of Tang’s envoys to Silla was mostly to make condolence calls for the former king and installation of the king for the new king, so they granted Chueungho for the former king and chaekbongho for the new king, While Tang’s envoys brought not only Joseo of emperor but various presents when visiting Silla, they brought Gwango, Jeongjul for Chaekbong, They gave Joseo and presents to king of Silla with different time during early Tang period, but after Gaewon period, it was made in the same time.
Silla experienced ceremony for a guest of Tang in the process of welcoming Tang’s envoys and sending Silla’s envoys to Tang after king Jingpyeong 43th year and the ceremony for a guest was adopted in king Mconmco period, This adoption of the ceremony for a guest of Tang had close relation with consistently accepting ceremonial systems from China around queen Jinduk period and 〈Gilhyoongyorye〉 of king Shinmoon 6th year helped it systematized and furthermore it was more systematized through exchanges with Tang. This also could be thought by the changes of Yeonggekboo where received Tang’s envoys. And studying the ceremomy welcoming Tang’s envoys through records of king Hyoseong 2 and 3 years showed it almost similar to the ceremony for a guest of Tang.
The ceremony for a guest which was receiving the foreign envoy was royal authority ceremony and king of Silla asserted his power at the nation and abroad through this ceremony. Especially installation of king of Silla was performed while king of Silla met chaekmyungsa, so king of Silla used Chaekbong of Tang to keep royal authenticity or royal authority and showed the dissatisfaction about Chaekbong of Tang By these, king of Silla showed up his authority either to Tang’s envoys or bureaucrats of Silla who attended the place. And by other cases such as presents from Tang’s emperor, giving ceremony after meeting Tang’s envoys and meeting Tang’s envoys in Jowonjeon. king of Silla enforced his authority to Tang’s envoys and domestic orders among ruling classes.
