Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the meanings of grandmother’s experiences who are taking care of her grandchild. Methods: Three grandmothers participated in the study. Data collection took place between October, 2010 and June, 2011 via unstructured in-depth interviews. Data collection and analysis were conducted simultaneously and The collective data were analyzed using a narrative inquiry methodology. All interviews were audio taped and transcribed verbatim. Results: The meanings of grandmother’s experiences who are taking care of her grandchild included seven central meanings: “don’t entrust others with her own kinship,” “sacrifice herself for her son (daughter),” “be beyond one´s capacity what she takes care of grandchild on son’s (daughter’s) behalf,” “caring for grandchild is easy if there are support groups,” “can not take her eyes off a child. at a moment,” “grandchild is vital energy for life,” “fading life fasten to grandchild.” Conclusion: The finding of this study will offer profound information on understanding grandmother’s experience who are taking care of her grandchild.
