New observations on the Chisulryoung Volcanic Formation (Yucheon Group), of Cretaceous age, suggest that it comprises the products of at least two major eruptive cycles, the first pre-dating the intrusion of the Gadaeri Granite. The results of K-Ar age determinations on minerals from these intrusions and from a mineralised diatreme suggest that the earlier eruptive cycle, whose products rest upon sediments of probable Albian age, was no younger than early Campanian and that the second cycle ended prior to late Maastrichtian to early Palaeocene (Danian) times. The formation of the Weolseong diatreme and its associated As-Zn mineralisation were related temporally, and probably genetically, to the emplacement and cooling of the Gadaeri Granite at the end of the Cretaceous period.
