On the assumption that Perimeter block housing with spatial, morphological and functional characteristics should be introduced to improve urban and residental environments qualitatively, as the previous studies have insisted, this study aims to seek for plans to establish Perimeter block housing in Korea as a new residental type of urban housing by considering effects of distance between buildings on building planning of Perimeter block housing and verifying limits of laws of Perimeter block housing in Korea. Currently, the standard of distance between building in Korea is applicable based on the height of a building in the opening orientation, regardless of building’s length or type. For that reason, a plat-type parallel arrangement of buildings is overriding and it is impossible to promote a variety of housing environments in Korea. This condition is inappropriate for Perimeter block housing which is constructed, facing the street. Besides, a middle-floor, tower-type building should be spatially arranged to realize high-density and accomplish a diversity of buildings, skylines and facade variation, when developing Perimeter block housing in cities. However, the present standard of distance between buildings makes spatially mixing stories of a building and developing block housing as you want.
