The period spent as old age is rapidly lengthened. Nowadays, life of old age is very unhappy. Therefore, the alienation of the aged is serious. The fundamental cause of the alienation is the modern view of world which still dominates the consciousness of modern people. In this paper, the possible ways of making happy old age through practice are investigated.
Two kinds of aging through practice is discussed in this paper. The first is aging as practice through physical health problems. The second is aging as practice through social loss. In the first part, aging as practice through aging phenomenon, death, and disease is covered. In the second part, aging as practice through loss of social relation and economic loss is stated.
In the next chapter, the image of beautiful old age is depicted. The heart of beautiful old age overflows with love. He thanks to everything and everybody. He is humble. He always stays in the lower place like water. His mind is peaceful. Nothing can disturb his peace. He is free from the obsession over money and power. His mind is receptive. He is open and can receive everything like earth. He helps everything which needs help.
In this paper, aging as practice is discussed. The sociological and practical implication of this paper is as follows. First, the way of beautiful and happy aging can be suggested. Second, the image of happy and beautiful old age can be provided. These are very useful to solve the serious alienation of current old aged people.
