We have been developing synthetic data of the Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR) aboard the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) core satellite from the TRMM Precipitation Radar (PR) data for contribution to higher level algorithm development. The DPR, which is being developed by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), consists of two radars; Ku-band (13.6GHz) precipitation radar (KuPR) and Ka-band (35.55GHz) radar (KaPR). The frequency of the PR is 13.8 GHz and it is necessary to estimate radar reflectivity factor (Z-factor) at the DPR frequencies. In this paper, Z-factors from rainfall signals are estimated at the DPR frequencies based upon a method of Seto and Iguchi (2010). The detectable rain range of the DPR is verified using the synthetic data on January and July 1998. The Z-factors are reduced more in strong rain rates at the KaPR than the KuPR, due to higher attenuation of the KaPR. This leads to increases of weaker Z-factors at the KaPR, as shown in Adhikari and Nakamura (2002). Missing fra ... 전체 초록 보기
