Carbon black is widely used in various industries these days. It is one of main ingredients of products such as automobile tire, ink, paint, and toner for printers and copy machines. The size and its distribution of the carbon black particles play important roles in its application to above-mentioned various products. When used in ink, the smaller the particle size, the better the particles are dispersed, and thus more glossier the print-out tends to become. Asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AsFlFFF) has been shown applicable for separation and characterization of various types of polymers and colloidal particles.
