The United States and Europe regulate the use of brominated flame retardants by law. US and EU are researching the alternative flame retardants due to the maleficence of halogen flame retardant. There are three types of flame retardants which are halogen, non-halogen and inorganic. After the regulation agreement of REACH, RoHS and OSPAR, phosphorus and melamine flame retardants are concerned because of their less negative environmental effect compared to the other types of flame retardants.
