An electric-hydraulic combi-brake system with hydraulic wheel brakes at the front axle and electromechanical brakes at the rear axle is presented. The capacites and sizes of the vacuum booster and master cylinder for these front hydraulic brakes are designed to provide the same brake performance as the conventional hydraulic brake system. The rear electromechanical brakes in this system are designed to include a BLDC motor, gear train, and a screw mechanism. The clamping forces of these electromechanical brakes are controlled using the ideal braking force distribution curve for front and rear brakes. It is verified via actual vehicle tests that the developed combi-brake system gives good performance such as an 7+ brake feel, a 44.9 m braking distance at 100kph , parking performance at a 33% hill, etc.
