In ourselves exist two masks; one is a Tal, a physical mask, and the other is a symbolic-social mask as a metaphor. According to Jacques Lacan"s position, a human being is born as a desiring unconscious subject through the symbolic castration-accepting "the name of father" during Oedipal process, giving up becoming phallus as a desirable object of mother.
This does not mean that he would not accept a symbolic mask. This makes us escape from the regard or gaze of the Other and the body of Tal dancers themselves be free, wearing human face as a symbolic mask with Tal-a physical mask. The process presents our bodies freedom and provokes latent and primary desire within ourselves. Newly emerging desire due to the effect of Tal does not mean ‘a desire as need’, ‘a desire for others’, but an unconscious level desire beyond psychology and individual aspect, becoming its primary desire.
Newly emerged primary desire due to Tal would be sometimes the power to expose perversive sexual desire. This breaks away from all the symbolic such as taboo and authority, law and order, culture and civilization, and morals as well as Oedipal taboo, letting the Tal stage of ‘a field of desire’, which would expose all the sexual desire as a primary power.
