This paper focuses on the concept of desire and its dilemma in the philosophy of G. Deleuze and F. Guattari.
They criticize the perspective of desire as a lack and propose that the desire could play a positive role without being determined by a certain end. In their view, the "producing" desires can be free from the passive position guided through pleasure and pain and the mechanism of oppression through the criteria of good and evil. However, in spite of their critique of teleology, one cannot deny that they themselves have an aim to overcome the established social order supported by the ideology of "Oedipus". Moreover, they have to encounter with the dilemma of desire, since the oppression of desire is driven too, by a sort of desire.
To solve this problem, Deleuze and Guattari change the agent of desire, from the "desiring machine" to the "body without organ". But they should pay for it the cost of the attenuation of the meaning of desire. Such a result, I think, comes from their neglect of other, the object of desire.
