Today’s mission has many challenges. One particular challenge that threatens the Christian mission is the conflict between Christians and Muslims. In this article the researcher will handle the question, how should the mission to Muslims be conducted. In regards to this issue Paul G. Hiebert once said that the missionary method to Muslims was not right that it did not satisfy the felt needs of Muslims. That is why he suggested that the Christian mission needs to respond to the felt needs of folk Islam.
The main goal of this article is to find the right way of mission, which is one that responds to the felt needs of folk Muslims. In doing so, the researcher seeks to develop a missionary method toward Indonesian folk Muslims as a case study. To achieve these goals the researcher studies three main points; the general understanding of the religion, especially comparing folk religion to, in a manner of speaking, ‘high religion’ or official religion, Indonesian folk Islam, and the missionary strategy towards Indonesian folk Muslims.
Outcomes of the case study will reveal the relevant missionary method. On the one hand, it seeks to understand faith and action of folk Muslims, the incarnational presence and power encounter and on the other hand, proclaim the Gospel of the cross, service ministry responding to the felt needs, and dialogue and pastoral nurture. In conclusion, the researcher will stress the importance of prayer.
