Zhou Meng Die is always the highlight. Even though the half century has passed since his virgin poetry SOLITUDE published, his masterpiece is still the focus and paragon for nowadays literary world. The research studies against his works are accumulated years after years. For Zhou Meng Die who chooses a life of poverty and solitude, there is nothing better than to be widely acclaimed by the literati.
Solitude is the first poetry of Zhou. The poetry published by Blue Star with his own expenses collects the works from 1952 to 1959, totally 75 poems and 62 pages. Due to his rugged and wandering life, most of his poems depict his loneliness and overwhelming self origin. In the scattered short prose line, he weaves his imaginary world with descriptive but direct way from the start to the end.
In Solitude, it appears the spirit of solitude, the self transcendence, and meaning of time... etc. The previous studies mostly focus on the
extensive views. None of the study talks about the connotation in depth. This is because we used to discuss Zhou’s poems from multi levels, namely the comprehensive theory to perceive intuitively what the poems provide. Actually, Zhou’s early stage of poems are not derived directly from the thing or status which he observes or finds out but indirectly through “it”, the image which he sketches up. This is the reason why it is quite difficult to interpret.
The author believes Solitude is Zhou’s self confession. The paper will combine Zhou’s intriguing life and the literary achievement through his masterpiece.
