Yangming once had religiously mystical experience. Therefore, Yangming’s thought can be studied in the aspect of religion. As one way for that, it is highly appropriate for comparing it with integral psychology by Ken Wilber. According to a study by Wilber, consciousness of human being evolves into cosmic consciousness depending on their age and particularly, the consciousness reaches the spirit stage, the highest rung, from the material?physical (instinct) level. In particular, this spirit is led to the spirit of the universe. In addition, he mentioned, in the theory of integral truth (quadrant), ‘I’, the subject of myself, should cultivate ‘my’ own personal consciousness by being connected to external conditions, because the evolution of myself is closely being affected by cultural, political and social environments which surround me. This research analyzes the process of the formation of Yangming’s thought through a theory of the evolution of consciousness by age, and explains why Zhu-Xi’s thought and Yangming’s thought should be supplemented by borrowing a theory of the connection between my consciousness and external environment
