This research aims to investigate the effects of the Dolphin Kick, which is currently a buzzword as a strategic method to improve swimmers’ records, through a two dimensional analysis method, called DLT (Direct Linear Transform) and propose effective dolphin kick techniques using the research outcome. We chose six high school swimmers to make two groups, which of one was excellent swimmers’ group and the other normal swimmers’ group. We studied kinematic variables while the group members I practicing the dolphin kicks and established a practical basis to provide teaching guidelines based on the study outcome.
The research outcome can be summarized as below;
Firstly, the excellent swimmers group demonstrated faster completion in practicing the first and second phase of the dolphin kick except the third phase than the other group. In the total completion time the excellent swimmers group showed faster performance than the other one.
Secondly, the excellent group showed wider angles in using the joints of ankles, knees and hip, whereas the normal swimmers group used wider angles in using shoulders and elbows joints than the other group.
Thirdly, the excellent swimmers group demonstrated faster movement in the movements of the joints of their feet, lower legs and thighs while the other group showed faster movement in using their upper-arms and fore-arms.
Lastly, the excellent swimmers group showed wider horizontal displacement of the centre of gravity in all phases of the dolphin kick practice. The normal swimmers group demonstrated higher vertical displacement in all the phases of the kick practice.
