Testosterone is an essential steroid hormone controlling male reproductive function. Some men suffer from insufficient secretion of testosterone due to physical, social, and psychological factors. Alternative medicines featuring plants, fungi, and insects have been studied for the enhancement of male sexuality. For example, bee pollen, which is referred to as nature’s most complete food, rejuvenates the body, stimulates organ function and glands, and enhances vitality. In the present study, we determined the effect of oak tree pollen on testosterone concentration in Sprague-Dawley rats. Eighteen rats per group were fed a regular diet or a diet supplemented with oak pollen powder for 4 weeks. Serum was collected from six rats per group. Results showed no changes in body weight or food and water intake in rats. However, supplementation of oak tree pollen powder significantly stimulated testosterone production (p?0.05) compared to control. These results suggest that oak pollen may be developed as a complementary medicine to improve sexual hormone production.
