초록·키워드
Members of the family Unionidae are found throughout the northern hemisphere, but Cristaria plicata (Leach, 1815) was endemic freshwater mussels in Northeast Asia.
C. plicata was designated endangered wild animal/plant species by the Ministry of Environment. We investigated ecological habitat of C. plicata in the Hapcheon weir watershed from April to May, 2011. The vertical range of C. plicata was below 3.5 m (EL: sea depth), and with together species was Anodonta arcaeformis (44.4%, 32 individuals), followed by Unio douglasiae (22.2%, 16 individuals), Limnoperna fortunei (13.9%, 10 individuals), Corbicula fluminea (11.1%, 8 individuals), and Anodonta woodiana (8.3%, 6 individuals).
The bottom conditions of study area was divided into four types (Rock Layer, Crushed Stone Layer, Crushed Stone Layer with some Sand Layer, Mud Layer). Among these bottom conditions, in the Crushed Stone Layer 81 individuals (68.1%), Rock Layer collected 27 individuals (22.7%), Crushed Stone Layer with some Sand Layer collected 7 individuals (5.9%), and Mud Layer 4 individuals (3.4%), respectively. Most Unionidae species were generally found where there are fine substrates like sand or mud however; C. plicata was found crack in a rock.
This study is first investigation of the ecological habitat for Cristaria plicata in Korea.
