This study is focused on exploring current issues and problems of performance audit in Local gvernment and proposing methods to ensure performance audit system as a control device to improve democracy, accountability, legitimacy and efficiency, Literature review and survey methods were adopted for this research. The questionnaires were distributed to local government officials in chungcheongbuk-do Currently a performance-based environment is still immature in local government. For example, there are lacks of performance audit capacity, guidelines, measures, and result utilization therefore, the scope of performance audit is needed to expand and audit system should be well prepared to ensure performance audit in local government. In other words, it is necessary to focus on improving systems, processes, and the results of performance audit perspectives to ensure audit systems in local governments.
