This study aims to clarify the relation between sports imageries and the competitive state anxieties of various sports players. 284 players majoring in athletics at the time of survey in 2011 was involved in this study. While sports imagery questionnaire in Martins(1982) is used to measure sports imagery, CSAI-2 in Martens(1990) is used to measure competitive state anxiety. After the frequency analysis and descriptive statistical analysis, the relationship of variables is examined through correlation analysis. In addition, multiple regression analysis is conducted to measure the effects of sports imagery on competitive state anxiety. The survey shows that sports imagery is negatively correlated with cognitive anxiety and body anxiety, but positively correlated with state confidence. The higher the score of cognitive anxiety or body anxiety is, the higher the degree of competitive state anxiety is. The higher the score of state confidence is, the lower the degree of competitive state anxiety is. Judging these evidences, sports imagery and competitive state anxiety are closely correlated. The result of multiple regression shows that four sub-factors in sports imagery are estimated to have a significant effect on each sub-factor of competitive state anxiety. By the regression equation, cognitive anxiety, body anxiety, and state confidence is explained by sports imagery about 10%, 4%, and 7%, respectively.
