This study focuses on time of his poems to see the meaning of his poems at the various way. Time in the literature and the matter of existence are inseparably related. Kant says that time is the form that makes us understand ourselves and our interstate. Time is the principle that basically act to recognize the objects.
The history of individual and the social circumstances that one belongs to are not isolated but they are only a part of dialectic time that flies from the past to the future. In this aspect, the poet"s thoughts and experience are restricted socially and historically. The poet has reality the one perfect structure. The relation between ego and the time sense is complementary. Consequently, retrieval of self-consciousness appears in the various forms depending on the shape of time sense. Writer"s tome sense is revealed in the form of intension in his imagination.
In case of Baek-Suk, he shows a strong tenacity for the past as a form of intension. Although this seems to be a kind of romantic escape under realization of frustrating reality, pursuit of past based on the close relation with the present causes desire for the original form or remantic nostalgia.
In the part of Baek-Suk"s time sense, this study concentrates on his return of the subjective time sense, doubt and refusal to the present, romantic consciousness. His poems, however, lack in the mind which is against the reality, future oriented historical mind, and spiritual work which simplifies the lives of the people. Despite these, time sense he pursued have an important meaning in that he searchs for the national origins and shows a great interest in the truth of the public.
