Vietnam territory has all mainland, island and occean in the southeast Asia. Its mainland area is well-over 33 million hectares. Soil classification researches in Vietnam have been carried out for a long time. In recent years, it is bases on the soil classification system of Vietnam, the mainland of Vietnam consits of 13 major soil groups: Sandy soils, Saline soils, Acid Sulphate soils, Swampy and Peat soils, Alluvial soils, Grey degraded soils, Brownish Grey soils in semi-arid region, Tropical Black soils, Ferralitic (Yellowish Red) soils, Reddish yellow humic soils in mountains, Humic soils in high mountains, Eroded skeletal soils. Among the groups, the Ferralitic soil group is predominant in term of the numbers of Soil Units(9) as well as its area occupied. Since 1995, the soil monoliths and basic information of 13 mojor soil groups have been processed in the international standard and displayed in the National Centre of Soil Reference and Informantion of Vietnam, which is also called "Soil Museum". This soil classification and soil museum still have an important role in the study and application for the Agriculture of Vietnam.
