In this paper, summarizations which has been brought out by 30 high school students are analyzed in terms of summation rule and its using of presented text. Most of the propositions have been processed by deletion and selection rule in the text. And few of them has been treated with generalization and construction rule. These cause low grade of the quality of summations of students.
In the text, propositions which have been applied to deletion rule are those of which contain 1) expression of subjectivity, 2) expression of explication of non-focusing theme, and 3) excluded by subjects’ lacks of background knowledge. And some of propositions have inconsistent in the application of summation rules, which are due to the structure of argumentation in the text.
This study have significance of proving that summation rules and summation production rules are psychological reality and proposition used in this study, though need to be refined, have usefulness as an analytical unit.
