The purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not the ACTN3 gene polymorphisms and physical activity levels was associated with body composition, blood pressure and cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF) in korean college students. The ACTN3 gene were genotype in 1280 korean college students, CRF was measured as the maximum volume of minute oxygen consumption during a graded treadmill testing, body composition(height, weight, body mass index, percent body fat, waist, WHR) and blood pressure were measured using our standardized protocols. Chi-square analysis was used to test the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium based on the genotype frequencies of the ACTN3 gene polymorphism in the study population, and its relative frequency were in the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Therefore, it was confirmed that a sample size(n = 1280) of the current study represented the total population appropriately in terms of the ACTN3 genotype distribution. On the other hand, body composition, blood pressure and CRF was not significantly different across the ACTN3 genotypes. Also, body composition, blood pressure and CRF was not significantly different across the ACTN3 genotypes and physical activity levels. In conclusion, the current findings suggest that the ACTN3 genotype and physical activity levels was not associated with the body composition, blood pressure and CRF in the korean college students.
