Although many firms implement various kinds of organizational practices, a substantial number fail to get what they desire. A firm’s practices are frequently decoupled from intended outcomes. This study examines these inconsistencies by applying the concepts of means-ends decoupling, referring to a gap between practices and outcomes, and intra-organizational dynamics. In addition to providing insights into the development of networkability within firms, this paper is one of the first to yield empirical support for the successful networks argument by demonstrating that networkability are key factors that serve not only to attenuate means-ends decoupling but also to improve organizational performance.
