The first initiative campaign over 20 years, the "Whistle for Help" Campaign is a campaign to fight sexual harassment on Yangon"s bus lines, was led by women to tackle an issue that effects women negatively. Yangon buses are overcrowded in the morning and evening rush hours, more likely to experience sexual harassment . The campaign grew out of the findings of research on sexuality carried out in 2011, through discussions among Akhaya(NGO-Myanmar) women participating in the Mentorship Program. The goal of the campaign is to stop sexual harassment on public buses. The threefold objectives are: to build an environment which encourages and allows women and girls to be able to protect themselves; to advocate for the rule of laws for the existing sexual harassment law; and to educate young people about sexuality in order to take control over their own bodies. 150 volunteers have been distributing whistles and pamphlets to women at eight busy bus stops in Yangon. The pamphlet instructs women to blow the whistle when they experience sexual harassment on the bus. In response to the campaign, on February 14 some local bus lines began offering women-only services during rush hours. Myanmar local and international media reported this campaign as a high profile public action. Volunteers who were participating in the campaign became a network. In addition, their knowledge on sexual harassment, women"s human rights, understanding of sexuality among women and demand for the study of sexuality has been increased from volunteer alumni gatherings and meetings. The campaign provided a clear example of the shifting of gender relations, as women took on leadership roles in stepping forward to participate in the campaign and to end harassment on the buses. How gender relations have been altered - make the women lead.
