Universal design for pedestrian space is important because it has direct effect on the person. The universal design with aims of creating a space accessible for everyone while containing efficient and ergonomic elements is necessary.
In order to study the characteristics of universal design for pedestrian space, public space designing of Seoul has been identified along its component to see the expression method as well as analyzing traits of universal design such as compatibility, acceptance, accessibility, and safety.
According to the analysis, there was a high rate of acceptance that applied various needs of the pedestrian and accessibility that allowed anyone can use the space regardless of physical handicap. Pedestrian space showed design traits of which improvement in universal design would satisfy the needs for pedestrian and remove obstacle to enhance accessibility.
The need and importance of universal design in pedestrian space will acquire more broad support to allow its components to be utilized in appropriate places.
