The purpose of this study is to find the planning characteristics of shopping malls inner atrium at mixed-use development. The method of this study is as follows. First, analysing the advanced research of MXD and atrium. Second, drawing an analysis items to vitalize MXD shopping malls of atrium. Third, research of projects in seoul and find the planning characteristics of shopping malls inner atrium at mixed-use development. The range of this study is limited as recent MXD projects by urban regeneration and select 2 sites in seoul. The result of this study is as flows. First, the atrium at MXD is placed throughout the mall as a street, entry part or in the center of it as a central square. Second, street type of atrium contain many function as a rest area, an inflow nature. Entry type has minimum space and function. And central square type has the most fine characteristic environment among them. Third, atrium of MXD has all of historical characters after post-modernism atrium.
