This study is to analyze the households’ car ownership in Korea using pseudo-panel approach. We use the household survey data of Statistics Korea from 1998 to 2011 and construct pseudo panel data according to householder’s age. We decompose the age, cohort, and time effects according to Deaton(2000). In addition, we use ordinary least squares and fixed effects estimation methods, to analyze the effects of household characteristic variables on the number of vehicles possessed by Korean households. We also use difference GMM to overcome the endogeneity problem of fixed effects estimation method. The estimation results of difference GMM show that the household income and numbers of laborers in Korean households increase the number of vehicles in Korean households and that the vehicle purchasing costs decrease it. Those in OLS show that the number of vehicles in Korean households increases with the vehicle maintenance costs. However, the effect of the alternative transportation costs is not accord with our expectation.
