This study has intended to assess the location suitability of urban parks in Cheongju City, using Gravity Model considering the demand and supply of urban park service. To reach this goal, the urban park location suitability concept was defined by considering the siting criteria of urban parks and the methods of assessing original location suitability. The analysis process of urban park location suitability assessment are as follows:
1) Using such variables as the urban park area per person stated in the Act on Urban Parks, greenbelts, etc. the urban park demand per building was calculated. 2) Using the entered data into a Geographic Information System(GIS), the actual urban park service supply per building was calculated. 3) Using the extended model of Gravity Model, the urban park location suitability assessment index-the ratio of demand to the gap between supply and demand-was calculated.
According to the analysis of the location suitability assessment, it was identified that the residents in more than half of surveyed buildings do not receive enough benefits from urban parks. Besides, this study proposes that urban park should be planned by considering accessibility to the park, satisfaction of quantitative supply and the population distribution around the park simultaneously.
