I am proposing a rational method and good cause to correct the unreasonable way of design competition which was ruling the Korean architect’s market for several decades. The competition shall be opened to every architects and architectural firms. To make it happen, we have to give up pre-qualification and the submittals are to be reduced significantly. We have to change our basic concept that design competitors are to spend their own effort and money for they are aiming to win and to get another job. However, they are working hard for the client to give better design. All the process is to be controled under fairness and openness so that the result is to be welcomed and admired by not only the client but the users and public.
The easiest thing we can start is inviting the foreign architect not as the participant of the competition but as the juror if the client want to arouse big interest for the project.
