Thermal electric cooling effects allow for chilling tissues which reduce the metabolic demand of cells. The reduced metablic demands result in the reduction of the need for adenosine triphospate (ATP) energy generated by anaerobic metabolism. Currently, air condensing based cooling system or containers full of ice are used for chilling cell tissues in Petri dishes during the clinical operation. However, the conventional air cooling system is large in size, which is adverse in the operation. For the method using the ice, the ice melts progressively over the time, thereby warming cell tissues from 4 degrees Celsius up to the room temperature. This sudden change in temperature can result in the formation of large quantities of free radicals as well as the traumatic problem for tissues. To overcome these issues, we develop a temperature controllable medical chilling device using the thermal electric cooling technology. We are demonstrating the performance of the electric chilling device in hair transplantation in collaboration with a dermatologist since the temperature dependent tissue viability of hair follicle cells in hair implant is suitable for quantification. This approach is promising for maintaining a constant temperature of the cell regardless of the external environment change, which plays a key role in the clinical use.
