This article introduces the development process of bearing wall type modular building systems. The load bearing wall is composed of light gauge steel stud, steel track and sheathing members for interior and exterior panels. The developed wall type modular system is mainly applicable to the residential facilities, which is widely used in Europe. The vertical load is transferred by the direct connection between upper and lowe walls, while the lateral load is resisted by the in-plane stiffness of sheathing members. In addition, test results and certifications on fire-proofing and sound insulation performances are briefly summarized.
