This study surveyed visitors to representative ecological tourist attractions, i.e. Mt. Seoraksan/Cheongsando Island, the Donggang River basin, and Eulsukdo Island/Upo Wetland, and examined their tourism characteristics, awareness of environmental conservation, and awareness of the environmental, economic and social conditions of the ecological tourist attractions. The purpose of this study was to derive policy implications regarding ecotourism planning and management based on the visitors’ awareness of the local communities they visit for ecotourism. The results of this study are as follows: First, it was found that all three groups thought using ecological tourist attractions in an environment-friendly way while conserving them would be necessary for the future-oriented maintenance/management of tourist attractions. As for willingness to withstand inconvenience while using tourist attractions, visitors were willing to withstand inconvenience to conserve natural resources. Second, As for awareness of natural ecosystem, living environment, and economic and social conditions, visitors to Mt. Seoraksan/Cheongsando Island and Donggang River basin were more positive than those who visited Upo Wetland/Eulsukdo Island, and visitors to Upo Wetland/Eulsukdo Island negatively rated economic and social conditions. Third, as for factors affecting awareness of natural ecosystem, living environment, and economic and social conditions, visitors were more likely to say the conditions of ecological tourist attractions were improved as they were more satisfied with the service.
