The purpose of this study was to comparison of biomechanical aspects of forward stroke performance and boat stability according to sex in kayak sprinting. Five male and three female elite kayak athletes participated in this study. Kayak athletes performed kayak sprinting on flat water condition while stroke frequency, elbow joint ROM, knee joint ROM, trunk rotation ROM, boat stability, integrated EMG (Biceps brachii: BB, Triceps brachii: TB, Detoid: DT, rectus femoris: RF, biceps femoris: BF) were measured and analyzed. The results showed that female kayak athletes’ one cycle forward stroke duration time was longer than male kayak athletes’. There were no significant differences in ROM of right elbow, right knee, trunk rotation on transverse plane between female and male. And The ROM of boat’s rolling angle was no different, too. iEMG and EMG pattern of BB, TB, DT, RF, BF were measured. However, the females’ EMG data were similar to males’. On the basis of the findings there were some technique similarities between female and male kayak sprinter. Therefore coaches do not have to adopt different training programs in technical aspect. However, the sex-based differences of physiological characteristics should be considered to improve their performance by coaches and athletes.
