We developed the new crash-pad that the surface is compression-injected with back-foamed foil(TPO) inserted and the substrate(PPF) is integrally injection-molded with PAB Door (TPO). We named it ‘IMX crash-pad’ which means that all components(‘X’) of crash-pad with different material is made In Mold. The development procedure of this technology was introduced; ①Concept of molding method using TRIZ, ②Design and injection optimization to minimize the foam loss and thickness deviation, ③Development of CAE method for two-shot injection compression. The reduction of process through integrally molding with softfoam skin made it possible to enhance soft feeling on Crash pad and reduce the cost simultaneously. The airbag deployment, head impact, and heat aging tests were conducted using the crash-pad of GB-car which will be massproduced in 2015.
